Kazoku means “family” in Japanese, and that’s exactly what we’ve built in Varsity Lakes on the Gold Coast.

Founder and head coach Alexandre Tsukamoto discovered Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as a teenager and found far more than a martial art in it: confidence, calm under pressure, and a community that helped him build a new life after moving to Australia. He started Kazoku to give others that same experience.

Today we coach kids and adults at every level, from first-timers to competitors, on a clear pathway that builds skill and character together. Alexandre’s philosophy is simple: great coaching isn’t measured in medals, but in the confidence a shy kid finds, the discipline a teenager builds, and the challenges an adult overcomes on the mats.
