Kim Charlotte Schoellkopf Earns Her Black Belt: A Huge Year for Women’s Jiu-Jitsu on the Gold Coast

September was a landmark month for our academy. Kim Charlotte Schoellkopf was awarded her Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) black belt at Kazoku Jiu Jitsu Academy in Varsity Lakes, Gold Coast — the culmination of years of dedication and one of the most successful competition years we have ever seen from a Kazoku athlete. Kim is now one of Queensland’s leading female Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belts.

A brown-belt year on the world stage

Kim spent her final year as a brown belt competing against the best in the world across the IBJJF’s major championships:

  • 2nd place — IBJJF European Championship (adult division)

  • 1st place — IBJJF Pan Championship (Master 1), Orlando, USA

  • 1st place — IBJJF Brazilian National Championship (Master 1)

  • Competed at the IBJJF World Championship (adult) and the IBJJF World Master Championship

Medalling at the Pan and Brazilian Nationals while placing on the podium in Europe is an outstanding achievement at any level — and especially so during a brown-belt campaign.

Why a female black belt matters

A BJJ black belt typically takes around ten years of consistent training to earn, and women remain under-represented at this level, which makes Kim’s achievement all the more significant. She is a role model for every woman and girl who steps onto the mats: living proof that with patience, discipline and the right support, the top of the sport is within reach. At Kazoku, we are proud to support women in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, from their very first class through to the world stage.
